Method
How this matrix is built.
CHOICE publishes a quarterly basket survey of 17 items: seven base staples that stay fixed for Year 2 (June 2025 onwards) plus ten seasonal spotlight items chosen by theme each quarter. The March 2026 wave used a school-lunchbox theme and was published 26 March 2026 from December 2025 fieldwork.
CHOICE prices their basket at Coles, Woolworths, ALDI and IGA. Pinch tracks Coles, Woolworths, ALDI and Harris Farm — so this matrix shows what the same basket costs at our fourth retailer (Harris Farm) which CHOICE doesn't survey.
For each CHOICE item, we picked the closest equivalent product at each retailer from Pinch's product catalogue: same product type, same name, closest pack size. Where size differs (CHOICE's "blueberries" landed at 125g at Coles, 170g at Aldi), the cell shows the actual size — no per-gram normalisation, no fabricated equivalents. The buyer judges the trade.
Prices are public shelf prices captured 27 May 2026. Specials are included as priced. CHOICE uses mystery shoppers in physical stores; Pinch uses the public online storefronts. Both methods agree on shelf prices for these items in our experience — but if you spot a divergence, tell us.
