This Privacy Policy is maintained by Prices with Pinch Pty Ltd (ACN 692 824 463) ("Pinch", "we", "us", "our"). It describes how we collect, hold, use, and disclose personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
This policy applies to our mobile application (iOS and Android), our website at pinch-app.com, and any related services we provide.
1. Information we collect
We collect the following kinds of personal information:
Information you provide
- Account details (name and email address) when you sign in via Google, Apple, or email
- Recipes and meal plans you create or save
- Shopping lists and product preferences
- Messages you send via our contact form (name, email, message content)
Information collected automatically
- Device information (device type, operating system, screen resolution)
- Usage data (pages visited, features used, session duration)
- IP address and approximate location (country/region level)
- Crash reports and performance data
Analytics and tracking technologies
Our website uses PostHog analytics to understand how visitors use our site. PostHog collects IP addresses, device information, pages visited, and browsing behaviour. This data helps us improve our services. PostHog processes this data in the United States.
Our mobile app uses Firebase Analytics to track feature usage, screen views, and app performance. Firebase processes this data in the United States.
You can limit tracking by using your browser's "Do Not Track" setting or by using a private/incognito browsing window. We do not use tracking for advertising purposes.
2. How we collect information
We collect personal information:
- Directly from you, when you create an account, submit a contact form, or use our app
- Automatically, through analytics tools and server logs when you visit our website or use our app
- From third-party authentication providers (Google and Apple) when you choose to sign in using their services. We receive only your name and email address from these providers.
You are not required to provide personal information to browse grocery prices on our website. If you choose not to provide account information, you will not be able to save recipes, build shopping lists, or receive price drop alerts.
3. Why we collect information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve our services
- Track grocery prices and notify you of price changes for products you have saved
- Analyse usage patterns to improve user experience and app performance
- Respond to your enquiries and provide support
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not use your personal information for advertising. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
4. Disclosure of information
We may disclose your personal information to the following types of recipients:
- Cloud infrastructure providers who host and process data on our behalf (see Section 5 below)
- Analytics providers who help us understand how our services are used
- Law enforcement or government agencies when required by Australian law
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We do not share your shopping habits or grocery data with retailers.
5. Overseas disclosure
In accordance with APP 8, we disclose that your personal information may be processed by service providers located outside Australia. These providers are:
- Google (Firebase): Authentication, database, cloud functions, and analytics. Data processed in the United States.
- PostHog: Website analytics. Data processed in the United States.
- Netlify: Website hosting and contact form processing. Data processed in the United States.
Product and pricing data is stored with Supabase in Sydney, Australia (AWS ap-southeast-2) and is not transferred overseas.
We take reasonable steps to ensure that overseas recipients handle your personal information in accordance with the APPs. These steps include selecting providers with strong privacy and security practices and relying on their data processing agreements.
6. Data security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include encryption of data in transit (TLS), authentication controls, and access restrictions.
No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. While we take reasonable steps to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Data breach notification
We comply with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme under Part IIIC of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). If we become aware of an eligible data breach that is likely to result in serious harm to any affected individuals, we will notify those individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as soon as practicable.
8. Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you (APP 12)
- Correct personal information that is inaccurate, out-of-date, incomplete, irrelevant, or misleading (APP 13)
- Delete your account and associated data at any time
- Opt out of promotional communications
- Request information about how your personal information has been used or disclosed
To exercise any of these rights, contact us. We will respond to access and correction requests within 30 days.
9. Data retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as necessary to provide our services. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.
Anonymised and aggregated data (such as overall usage statistics) may be retained indefinitely as it cannot be used to identify you.
10. Children's privacy
Our services are not directed to children under 15 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 15. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 15 without appropriate parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date above. Where changes are significant, we will take reasonable steps to notify you through the app or via email.
12. Complaints
If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles or handled your personal information inappropriately, please contact us. We will investigate your complaint and respond within 30 days.
